Sky Cinema new releases: What’s on in June

A Nice Indian Boy - 1st June

Romantic comedy in which Naveen (Karan Soni, Deadpool) brings his fiancee Jay (Jonathan Groff, Mindhunter) - a white man raised by Indian parents - home to meet his deeply traditional family.

Awkwardness, misunderstanding and hijinks ensue.

Venom: The Last Dance - 6th June

Final(?) part of Sony’s antihero trilogy, about an ordinary man fused with a malevolent alien intelligence.

Tom Hardy returns once again, as both Eddie Brock and the voice of Venom, facing off against a gooey space god bent on world domination. You know, the usual.

Your Monster - 7th June

Sort of a postmodern, comedy horror take on the classic Beauty and the Beast story. A shy actress, recovering from the double-punch of cancer and being unceremoniously dumped by her boyfriend, forms an unlikely relationship with the hairy monster that lives in her closet.

Stars Melissa Berrera (Scream 6) and Tommy Dewey (Saturday Night).

Exhibiting Forgiveness - 8th June

Indie drama about an artist who finds himself unexpectedly reconnecting with his estranged father. Stars André Holland (The Eddy) and Andra Day (The United States vs. Billie Holiday).

Anora - 13th June

Oscar-winning drama about a young sex worker (Mikey Madison) who impulsively marries the son of a Russian oligarch and finds her life turned upside down.

This one took home a bunch of awards this season, with Madison’s naturalistic performance garnering a ton of praise in particular.

The Luckiest Man in America - 14th June

Based on a strange-but-true story, this comedic drama follows a down-on-his-luck ice cream man who uses his remarkable memory to win huge sums of money on a game show. Stars Paul Walter Hauser (Cobra Kai) and Walton Goggins (The White Lotus).

Home Delivery - 15th June

Quirky drama about a model who invites her estranged family to her home so that they can witness the birth of her child. Stars Jimmi Simpson (Westworld) and Melanie Field (You).

Joker: Folie à Deux - 20th June

Somewhat… divisive sequel to the mega-popular 2019 villain-centric origin story. This time around, Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix) is standing trial for murder when he meets the love of his life - Lee Quinzel (Lady Gaga).

By all accounts just as scuzzy and bleak as the first movie - if not more - but this time with an added musical element, randomly.

Piece By Piece - 21st June

Unconventional biopic of superstar musician/producer Pharrell Williams, told entirely through animated LEGO bricks. Stars Williams himself, plus other music luminaries like Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z and Busta Rhymes.

‘Salem’s Lot - 22nd June

Horror movie adapting Stephen King’s classic novel about vampires invading a small New England town. This is written and directed by Gary Dauberman (IT) and stars Lewis Pullman (Thunderbolts*), Alfre Woodard (12 Years a Slave) and Pilou Asbæk (Game of Thrones).

Plus a ton of bloodsucking monsters, of course.

Sharp Corner - 28th June

Psychological drama about a troubled man who becomes obsessed with the fatal car accidents that keep occurring near his house. Stars Ben Foster (Hell or High Water) and Cobie Smulders (The Avengers).

Empire Waist - 29th June

A shy teenager’s talent for fashion is discovered by her classmates, propelling her into the spotlight whether she likes it or not. Stars Rainn Wilson (The Office).
