What’s on Sky Sports this month? August’s essential viewing schedule
Top sporting watches this month.

August marks the start of a new season for many sports, while some will be reaching its end during the height of summer
Between European football returning and the PGA Tour golf season reaching its end, there's plenty to watch this month.
Here's what you can look forward to on Sky Sports in August.
Football on Sky Sports
Football is finally back!
August heralds a new season across all leagues in Europe, with some even having gotten their start this past weekend already.
Rejoice as we fans get set to endure a new campaign filled with thrills and despair at times!
Birmingham City vs Ipswich Town | Friday 8th August at 7pm | Sky Sports Football
An exciting affair kicks off the new Championship season as newly promoted Birmingham takes on freshly returning Ipswich.
Birmingham spent a year in League One dominating and look to return to the top half of the table now in their return to the second division, while Ipswich will be aiming to fight back to the Premier League.
Kick-off at 8pm.
Southampton vs Wrexham | Saturday 9th August at 11am | Sky Sports Main Event & Football
A similar matchup to Friday’s kickoff will be the showcase game on Saturday as newly demoted Southampton take on the Hollywood side from Wales, Wrexham.
Wrexham’s storied rise from the Conference National league all the way up to the Championship in consecutive seasons has brought a lot of attention, so a game against a former Premier League side as their first challenge will be a good indicator for how their year might go.
Kick-off at 12:30pm.
Liverpool vs Bournemouth | Friday 15th August at 7pm | Sky Sports Main Event & Premier League
The new Premier League season will get underway, with the defending champions Liverpool taking on an always unpredictable Bournemouth side.
The champs have been very active in the market this summer so it will be exciting to see their new arrivals in action for the first time and how the team will cooperate with one another with these new additions.
Kick-off at 8pm.
Manchester United vs Arsenal | Sunday 17th August at 4pm | Sky Sports Main Event & Football
The first clash between England’s historically major clubs comes on the opening weekend as two of British football’s most successful teams face-off.
Adding the ‘historically’ part is necessary given Man United’s recent struggles compared to Arsenal’s high-flying nature in recent years. But let’s not forget, one of these teams has been to a European final and won two trophies in the previous three seasons, while the other has failed to even make a final of any kind in that same span. If you don’t know which way round that is, the answer may surprise you.
Kick-off at 4:30pm.
Newcastle United vs Liverpool | Monday 25th August at 6:30pm | Sky Sports Main Event & Premier League
Monday Night Football is capable of brightening the worst day of the work (at least that is so for neutrals), especially when it’s a good one, just like we will have on the 25th as Newcastle hosts Liverpool.
It will still only be the second gameweek of the year so don’t expect it to set the standards for either side, but it could be a good springboard for one or the other to get a run going and prove them to be one to beat this year.
Kick-off at 8pm.
Leicester City vs Birmingham City | Friday 29th August at 7pm | Sky Sports Football
Birmingham’s start to life back in the second division will provide them with a test, facing some of the top sides for the season to come, ending August off against newly demoted Leicester.
Life without Jamie Vardy will be odd for Leicester but they will be sure to want to start their new era strongly.
Kick-off at 8pm.
Rangers vs Celtic | Sunday 31st August at 11am | Sky Sports Football
We can’t forget about our neighbours to the north as the Scottish Premiership has also got underway – and what a treat we have at the end of the month as one of the most famous and brutal rivalries in all of football will take place.
Rangers vs Celtic match one of three for the 2025/26 season is sure to provide the sparks as their affairs always do.
Kick-off at 12pm.
Liverpool vs Arsenal | Sunday 31st August at 4pm | Sky Sports Main Event & Premier League
Champions vs runners-up. Both sides have added new pieces over the summer and will have this match circled as the first major test (maybe second for the Reds, depending on how they view Newcastle).
Kick-off at 4:30pm
Formula 1 on Sky Sports
The summer break is officially here, giving the drivers a good rest before continuing on with the season.
Don’t worry though, it won’t be for so long – the action will return for the Dutch Grand Prix at the end of the month.
Dutch Grand Prix | Friday 29th - Sunday 31st | Sky Sports F1 HD
Returning from the summer break and rocking up to Zandvoort for the penultimate time, the drivers and team members will be refreshed and ready to give it their all for the remaining 10 races.
Lando Norris’ superb victory last time out in Hungary brought the gap at the top of the standings to his teammate down to nine points, giving him a good spark to hold on to for the break.
Cricket on Sky Sports
England continues their preparations for the Ashes at the end of the year, continuing with various series in different formats.
As for the Women’s team, they too have some warm-up games coming up as they prepare for the World Cup beginning in October.
August will be something of a break for international play though, but that means domestic cricket will be taking centre stage – most notably, a new season of The Hundred.
The Hundred | Tuesday 5th - Sunday 31st | Sky Sports Main Event & Cricket
Get ready for another year of excitement as the 2025 edition of The Hundred gets underway on Tuesday 5th, kicking off a full month of action, with a game almost every day of August.
Defending champions Oval Invincibles (Men’s) and London Spirit (Women’s) will get things going for the first game, all leading up to the playoffs at the end of the month.
Eliminators; Saturday 30th August – Women’s at 1:45pm, Men’s at 5:30pm
Finals: Sunday 31st August – Women’s at 1:45pm, Men’s at 5:30pm
Golf on Sky Sports
Major season is over and now all that’s left in the PGA Tour season is the Tour playoffs and championship. August will see the finale to the main portion of the season, so you won’t want to miss the events going on this month.
Fedex Playoffs - St Jude Championship | Thursday 7th - Sunday 10th | Sky Sports Main Event & Golf
The first event in the playoffs will be the St Jude Championship and provides some great action as some of the top players aim to add to their points tally to give them a boost comes the Tour Championship later in the month.
Fedex Playoffs - BMW Championship | Thursday 14th - Sunday 17th | Sky Sports Main Event & Golf
Round two of the playoffs emanates from Caves Valley Golf Club in Maryland for the BMW Championship.
A second opportunity to add valuable points to players’ totals, as well as one more chance for some to get into the season-ending championship finale.
Fedex Playoffs - Tour Championship | Thursday 21st - Sunday 24th | Sky Sports Main Event & Golf
The finale to the season will come at the end of the month as the top 30 point scorers for the season compete for the biggest prize pot of the year.
East Lake Golf Club has been the home of the tournament since 2004 so some of the more frequent competitors will be well accustomed to the course - but that won't mean there can't be a surprise or two sprung.
Tennis on Sky Sports
Hard court season is in full swing as the players on both the ATP and WTA Tours prepare for the final Grand Slam of the year, the US Open, which is coming towards the end of the month.
ATP 1000 Toronto & WTA 1000 Montreal | 27th July - 7th August | Sky Sports Main Event, Tennis & Sky Sports+
US Open month starts with the finale of two highly-rated ATP and WTA 1000 events taking place in Canada.
Both are reaching the end stages, with the semi-finals the order of play at the time of writing, and the finals will come on Thursday 7th.
Cincinnati Open | Saturday 9th - Monday 18th | Sky Sports Main Event, Tennis & Sky Sports+
Following one Masters tour to another, the Cincinnati Open is the second consecutive ATP and WTA 1000 on the calendar.
The tournament is the oldest of its kind in the United States to still be played in its original city, having first been competed in 1899, which means it holds a lot of prestige and has many of the tour's top players coming to compete.
US Open | Sunday 24th August - Sunday 7th September | Sky Sports Main Event, Tennis & Sky Sports+
The final Grand Slam of the year emanates from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre, home to three of the world’s largest tennis stadiums, including the one at the top spot, Arthur Ashe Stadium.
As the last chance at Grand Slam glory, expect fierce competition from all involved as they look to etch their names into the history books.
